What We Do
Much of the work of the club involves training
new members to obtain their first diving qualification or training existing
members to obtain higher level qualifications. We also organise trips
to dive sites in Britain and abroad and we enjoy lively social activities.
A club newsletter is published regularly. You can read the latest newsletter
and back issues here.
You can find find out about
forthcoming dives and events by checking the club notice board in the
foyer at Fore Street baths in Ipswich or by checking the Dive and Social
Programme pages on this site. We also have a mailing
list that you can subscribe to.
Overall management of the club
is carried out by a committee that is elected
by the membership each year and runs the club in accordance with our
constitution.
Training
Training undertaken by the club involves theory lessons, pool training
and open water training. Theory lessons usually take the form of lectures
in a classroom (although some members have been seen struggling to resuscitate
a plastic torso during first aid lectures). Pool training allows members
to put theory into practice in the safety of a swimming pool and open
water training allows skill development in more challenging conditions.

Trips & Travel
Regular trips are arranged by the club. These can range from a day trip
to the coast for some shore diving to a week in the Red Sea where you
might meet our friend here.
Some
trips are unsuitable for very new, inexperienced divers but most are
open to all. A variety of dives are normally arranged during each trip
so that all members will have opportunities to enjoy themselves and
build up experience.
The club usually arranges a trip to Lullworth Cove
in Dorset for a week each summer and another trip to St. Abbs in Scotland.
In addition to these trips, there is usually at least one foreign trip
per year. This could be to a location like Sharm El Shek in Egypt or
somewhere further afield. Non diving spouses and partners are welcome
on all trips.
Social Events
You can't spend all your time in the water so the club organises a number
of social events throughout the year. These range from the annual Christmas
party to theatre trips or a few beers after pool training on a Thursday
night. (As you'll find out if you join - diving can cause dehydration
and it is important to maintain a healthy fluid balance!)
