Qualified Divers

Ipswich Sub Aqua Club welcomes new members who have qualified with other organisations. In most cases, you will be able to join at a level that corresponds to your current level of experience. However, you might need to undertake some additional training to complete any gaps in your knowledge that need to be filled to achieve a particular grade within the club.

For example, the PADI Advanced Open Water qualification does not include training in decompression theory. You would therefore need to undertake some theory lessons to achieve a Sports Diver qualification through the club.

You will also have the opportunity to attend a short 'Introduction to BSAC' course to become familiar with the club and also with the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC), which is our parent organisation.

A list of qualifications issued by other diving organisations and recognised by BSAC can be viewed on the BSAC web site here.

Skill Development Courses

As well as undertaking basic diving courses, club members can participate in skill development courses. These teach skills such as rescue techniques, first aid or boat handling and they are generally organised by the BSAC. Some of these courses need to be completed prior to achieving a particular grade within BSAC.

If you are an experienced diver, you may have completed equivalent training with other organisations, such as PADI or the armed forces. A list of acceptable equivalent courses is given in the BSAC web site here.
